Thanksgiving 2007

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love the food, the smells, the cooler weather, the colors of autumn, and most importantly, the people. There is nothing better than sharing our home with family and friends, and as I look around the table at those who have gathered, my heart is filled with such peace and joy and...wait for it...thanksgiving.

Although I am often frustrated by many things in my daily life, it is times like this when I am reminded of how tremendously blessed I am by all of the amazing people in my life and I am genuinely thankful.

This year was a particularly special because it was the first time Adam and I got to share Thanksgiving with the Brickers. Dustin, Beth, Joshua, and Lauren, with Mattie as co-pilot, drove north from Cedar Rapids to Minneapolis. And to fill the other seats at our table, two dear friends, Katie and Leif, joined us. Sadly, Katie's husband, Dave, had traveled east to visit his family for the holiday and so was unable to join us. We missed Dave, and as we have heard, Dave missed Adam's cooking. Next year, Dave, there's always next year.

I think everyone who was there would agree that Adam, with much help from Beth, and a tiny, little assist from me in the form of my famous apple cream pie, served up the single most spectacular Thanksgiving dinner EVER!

I'll be talking food in my next blog, so more to come on that. For now, though, here are a few photos from our Thanksgiving.

41st Birthday

Okay, I'm finally going to start this blog thing...

I celebrated my 41st birthday on Friday, November 9, 2007. Oddly enough, 41 was much more difficult on me emotionally than the big 4-0 was. It's like I'm now really in my 40s and I have no idea how I got here. You blink and you're graduating from high school...blink again and you're graduting from college and working at The Gap.

Suddenly, I'm 41 and have been partnered for almost 10 years. It's kind of crazy.

Thankfully, to counter some of these reflective and slightly sad feelings, my wonderful partner gave me the incredible gift of a weekend stay at a gorgeous bed and breakfast in Duluth, MN. Duluth is one of our favorite get aways, but we haven't been there for several years, and it was really nice to return.

We stayed at The Olcott House Bed and Breakfast. The Olcott House is an old Victorian mansion located in a part of Duluth that is filled with mansions. In the early 1900s, there were more millionaires in Duluth, MN than anywhere else in the country. Walking the streets in the neighborhood where The Olcott House is located, you can see the results of that.

First-Time Blogger

So, I know half of the free world is blogging these days, and so I've decided to share my two cents, toss my hat into the ring, share the joy that is me.
